Anyone who knows me also knows that I’m not a morning person, never have been, and probably never will be. I work third shift to avoid mornings. The only time that you will ever see me smile and full of energy at 0700 is when I’m getting ready to give end of shift report and skedaddle out of the hospital. However, working third shift brings on its own set of problems – a wonky sleep schedule which results in – let’s face it – sleep deprivation.

If you’ve read any of my previous posts you also know that I’m also a mother of a very energetic toddler and a very mischievous 10 month old baby who is almost walking. Thankfully, both babes sleep through the night, but chasing them around all day is, you guessed it, EXHAUSTING!!

If you also factor in my hypothyroid and the fact that I keep forgetting to get my labs redone to get my dosage adjusted {yes, I know, shame on me.} I am always tired. Even on the rare occasions that I actually I get an adequate amount sleep I still find myself craving a nap by 10:30AM.

Anyways, I’m tired. All. The. Time. You get it. As tired as I may be, come 8:30 at night chances are I’m ready to hide out in my little craft room and craft the night away {if I’m not at work that is}.

I had seen a few glitter coated Tumblers on Pinterest and I was in love with them from the very start! I’m a girl, and I may not have the best fashion sense {I’m all about jeans and an old t-shirt if I’m not in yoga pants!} or undying love for makeup, but like most girls I still looooove me some glitter. I had fine glitter already on my shelf, had the Modge Podge {because what craftaholic doesn’t have modge podge?!}, all I needed was the tumbler. So off I went to Amazon to order this incredibly sleek double walled tumbler, and it two days the UPS man dropped it {along with a couple of other items that I won’t tell my husband about} on my doorstep. I love Prime!

Two coats of modge podge plus glitter, 3 coats of Epoxy, 1 botched attempt at putting my decal on, and almost 24 long hours later – my masterpiece was complete!

Step 1: Tape off tumbler as evenly as you can. It helps if you use a rubber band!

Make Your Own:

You will need:

  • Modge Podge
  • FINE glitter
  • Epoxy
  • Painter’s tape
  • Rubber band
  • Vinyl decal (if wanted) **If you are creating your own decal you MUST use permanent vinyl
  • Tumbler
  • 2 Craft brushes
  • Sandpaper
Soooo much glitter

Step By Step Instructions:

  • Slide rubber band to where you want the glitter to stop. This will help you get your tape even.
  • Tape off the section of your tumbler that you DON’T want covered with glitter
  • Lightly coat modge podge around tumbler, sprinkle on glitter, let dry for 4-6 hours
  • Repeat step #3 if wanted. This is personal preference. I DID do two coats of Modge-Podge and glitter. Once your final coat of this is dry, peel off and replace tape.
  • After your second coat of glitter and Modge-Podge is complete, coat with one coat of Epoxy (unless using Triple-Thick, then one coat is fine). Let dry completely. I allowed mine to dry for about 5 hours.
  • Once your first coat of epoxy is dry, sand down gently and lightly with a fine grit sandpaper. I used 120 grit.
  • Wipe or blow off dust/glitter and apply second coat.
  • Follow step #6 and do a third coat of epoxy.
  • Once your cup is completely dry, apply vinyl decal (if applicable). You will have to burnish it VERY well and peel transfer paper off very slowly. If you’re having a difficult time getting it to stick you can sand it to be more smooth which will help the vinyl stick better. {This is why I went through 2 decals!}
  • Allow your tumbler to “cure” for another 24-48 hours before washing. HAND WASH ONLY! DO NOT SOAK!
Isn’t it beautiful!?!

**A word to the wise: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT try to clean your craft brush that has been used for epoxy coats with your hands under running water. Your hand will get VERY sticky!! I thought that because the water was running as I was rinsing my brush that I could use my hand to squeeze off the excess water – nope! At least Logan got a good laugh out of the deal! **

I hope that you enjoy your tumbler just as much as I enjoy mine!!
