Crickets….or rather, Cricut!

Chirp chirp, chirp chirp…

Wow! I can’t believe how long it has been since I last posted….

The holidays are always such a busy and crazy time, not just for me, but for everyone! So, I decided to take a little break from blogging for a bit. Because of this I’ve actually gotten to sit on the couch and relax a smidge AND most importantly —- PLAY WITH MY NEW TOY!!

My AMAZING husband got me a CRICUT for Christmas!! Being as big into crafting and DIY projects as I am it’s safe to say that I’ve wanted one for awhile now. I honestly can’t believe he got me one…kind of. He told me that he knew what I wanted but couldn’t remember the name of it, and because I absolutely hate spending money on myself, especially when it’s so much, I didn’t tell him what it was. He still figured it out! God love him.

Isn’t it beautiful!!

I have been wanting to use etching cream for such a long time, but I never had the ability to make my own stencil. So for my first project I chose to make an etched wine glass. I have to admit, it was actually pretty easy to make once I got the stencil on! It’s not perfect by any means, but for a first attempt I’m pretty proud.

“Because Kids”  was the stencil that I chose to make. I think every mom has been there, am-i-right?! Either the baby is teething or the toddler is going through the terrible two’s,and if you’re really unlucky both are happening at once. At the end of the day, you just want {need} to put your feet up and enjoy a nice glass of wine. There’s no shame in your game, Mama! We all need to remember to take some time for ourselves and remember that it’s okay for us to relax too!

After putting my stencil on was the messy part – applying the etching cream. It smelled faintly of rotten eggs, but thankfully wasn’t too strong or overwhelming. I honestly imagined it smelling really acidy, almost to the point of burning my nose, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, everyone I spoke to recommended to use gloves while using it, naturally I didn’t have any. Whoops! Fortunately, I didn’t get any on my skin, but I do plan to use gloves next time. When working with etching cream you have to layer it on pretty thick. I gasped when I was told that too! This stuff isn’t cheap! It’s okay though! You can scrape it back into the bottle! Whew, feel better now? I sure did. To apply it I used one of those little black sponges that are attached to a stick. It went on like a charm! Leave it to set for five minutes or so, then rinse! SO EASY!!

It’s safe to say that I am definitely addicted! I absolutely love the look of the etched glass. I plan on making more of these, as gifts, or even just for something to do. Thankfully, we have a Dollar Tree opening up closer to us in ELEVEN days, which was where I scored this awesome find! Everything in the store is $1. It’s a crafter’s dream.
